New Peak V2 Review – Puffco Modernizes The Pioneer E-Rig
Puffco recently retired the original Puffco Peak vaporizer which was released in 2018. The Puffco Peak was the pioneering E-rig that launched a new cannabis hardware market and spawned countless imitators. While the original Peak remains a great product, Puffco quickly introduced the updated Peak V2, shortly after bidding adieu to the original. The new Peak offers modern enhancements and features which we will touch on in our Puffco Peak V2 review.
The new Puffco Peak V2 follows the same blueprint as the old Puffco and is by no means a huge departure from the original, but is a more inclusive device for a larger demographic than the original. The upgrade demonstrates Puffco’s commitment to constantly innovating. This has been one of their recipes for success which we have seen play out countless times from limited editions, to April Fools jokes which launched solid new products to their flagship line up in the Peak Pro vaporizer, which saw a V1 to V2 upgrade in 2023.
For those not familiar with the OG Puffco Peak there is no need to worry. We will review the updated Peak 2.0 as it comes out of the box and make notes as to what has improved. Anytime there is a newly released model it does also provide an opportunity to pick up the older model at a discount before they are all gone.
Use the link below to get the best price on the Peak from an authorized retailer. When you purchase from To the Cloud Vapor Store you will not only get the Puffco warranty but also a 60 day trial period and lifetime trade ins. We are aware non-authorized retailers may advertise a lower price so always good to check with Puffco before buying.
Price
Price is an obvious factor and the newly released Peak V2 being offered here with all the new amenities is certainly a value buy at $220. To think the original Peak was priced at $379 when first released back in 2018, it is kind of mind blowing to think the new Peak V2 is this cheap. Playing the price is right I would have at least guessed the new Peak was going to retail for $249-$279. Puffco did mention a low price when teasing the release of the new Peak. That in a sense made me think possibly $100-$150 less then the uber premium Peak Pro with 3DXL at $420. At $220 this is a steal of an E-Rig.
Packaging & Unboxing Experience
In true Puffco fashion the packaging is functional and serves great for storage, transit and protection. Such as is the case for reviewing these devices, it is necessary to take them around to many locations and Puffco’s packaging has always served great for not needing to buy after market tote bags. Oddly enough I do like the original automotive Styrofoam Puffco used on the Gen 1 Peak as it fit the device more like a glove. Here the unboxing experience is more pleasant in an aesthetic sense but not as functional as the old packaging.

Build & Design
While most of the same materials were used in constructing the new version Peak, the design is the thing to write about here. The upgraded Peak is noticeably more ergonomic and streamlined. Each part of the unit blends into the next part seamlessly. Whereas if you look how the stainless steel chamber protrudes on the original Peak whereas the 3D Peak Chamber sits in nice and snug.
The Peak breaks down into three main parts: The Base, the 3D Chamber and Glass.
The new Peak’s silicone base extends all the way to the glass. The glass has two new percolation slots at the top of the stem. The glass is hand blown borosilicate and the 3D Chamber is the same alloy and smooth ceramic the 3DXL Chamber is constructed of. The RGB lighting is more nuanced along the backside of the chassis right above the USB-C Charging port. As sleek and ahead of the time the original Peak was, the Peak V2 almost makes it look like a prototype. The new Peak has some serious 2024 luxury vehicle vibes from the recessed power button to the joystick cap and don’t get me started on this sky color.
As far as backwards compatibility. The new 3D Chamber will not work on the OG Peak or Peak Pro and the Peak Atomizer nor Pro 3D will not work on the new Peak. The glass however is compatible across all Peak variations.
2 New Colors
The Peak now comes in 3 colors – the standard onyx but now also available in light blue dubbed sky and an off white called cloud. The sky color is so pleasing to my senses the same way I felt about the Desert edition Peak Pro & Proxy. As much as we hate needing to inventory and stock different colors of the same product, the option to choose a color that best fits your vibe is always a win. We tend to not realize this until we review these vaporizers from the consumer’s point of view how something as little as a color elevates the product for someone.
3D Chamber
All Puffco Peaks and Peak Pros now come with 3D chambers out of the box. The 3D technology features a heating chamber with 3D coils embedded within ceramic walls, which enhances the heat distribution throughout the chamber. Unlike traditional chambers that heat solely from the bottom, the 3D Chamber provides a more even heat application. This results in efficient vaporization of concentrates, preserving the flavor and potency of the product while reducing waste.
While the 3D chamber is great to see on the new Peak, it is becoming a moot point sort of like the USB-C charging. All high end rigs from competitors like Focus V and Dr. Dabber have introduced similar functioning atomizers, chambers and inserts. The takeaway here though is that the new Peak has a better chamber than the original ceramic Peak Atomizer.
Usability
I personally struggle with single button vaporizers which require me to use one button and press it in sequences along with navigating color patterns of lights for information such as temperature level and battery life. Like the original Peak, the Peak 2.0 does not provide this information in an app or have a read out screen that displays information like you would get with the Peak Pro V2 or Ispire Daab.
The new Peak is meant to give the user a solid dab at an economical price point. If you want to customize light shows and program preset temperatures with all the data on your phone you will need to spring for a Peak Pro for all the bells and whistles.
- Power on – Press and Hold
- Adjust Temperature – Single Press (cycle between 4 preset temperatures)
- Start Session – Two Presses
- Power Off – Press and Hold
There are some nuances which you will have to navigate. As mentioned above I always had a difficult time discerning between standby mode and if the unit is powered down. This thing seems to sit in perpetual standby. I left it on overnight and came back next evening and it was in standby mode. I recall doing this with my original Peak and then going for a dab a week or so later to find I had a dead battery.
Powering off will give you a haptic feedback that has a sound pattern like it is descending. Where powering on is the vibration noise ascending. If you listen to the video below you will see what I am saying.
Another control nuance is that once the Peak V2 hits temperature it will only stay at temperature for 45 seconds before it enters standby mode. You can end the session by hitting the home button but this will just put it in standby mode. To power it off you must ensure it is the long hold followed by the haptic feedback which signals it is powering down.
This can get even more confusing when you are checking battery life which is demonstrated by lighting which signals the levels of battery left. When you have had a few dabs it all starts getting cloudy. “Like dude what level battery is white again ? Is that even the right setting ?”
The trade off I will say is that many can have issues with the app as well as it adds a level of complexity, especially for those who are not the most tech savvy. Sometimes I like when vaporizers do not have an app. Personally I tend to use them to adjust my initial settings and then never adjust them from that ever again. They are great for informational value about the vaporizer however, but then again if you want that it is very much available with the Peak Pro.
Session
The new Peak arrives ready to use out of the box but as always we recommend charging while you gander at the directions. Here it is just the quick start guide which gives you the basics.
The Peak in my opinion is going to be the straight forward economical E-rig for the dab enthusiast or the adult who appreciates a night time dab before bed.
As it comes The Peak provides the best dabs one can get at this price. Not only does it do that but it offers the capabilities to provide subtle chill hits in the lower temperature ranges that are on par with the Proxy but also can be turned up hot to provide you the dab sweats that come close to ripping the Peak Pro or Carta 2.
I do feel the smaller chamber and compact new design does lend the Peak V2 to being more of an entry level or chill E-rig. One thing that I find to be a contradiction with “chill rigs” is that E-rigs by their inherent nature power on, get hot and then turn off. They cannot be on for minutes at a time.
My best sessions with the new Peak are purposeful sessions. I am sitting down and devoting 100% of my attention to taking a dab in an optimal environment. I love night caps and the new Peak, like the original Peak, or any E-Rig are water filled devices that automatically power down shortly after entering session temperature. 1.) While watching a movie in bed I cannot just rip the new Peak like I can an herb vaporizer, such as the Venty, as I see fit over the course of 3-5 minutes and 2.) The water filtration and glass component of it makes it so I must be aware of the device’s placement. i.e..) I cannot just toss it aside on the bed like I could with the Proxy.
Being a huge herb vaporist, I have to admit this is where session herb vaporizers shine – When you are kicking back walking the dog or laying in bed.
The new Peak V2 offers 4 temperature presets and a special mode for dry top dabs which is a higher heat above the 590° F white setting.
- Blue – 490°F
- Green – 510°F
- Red – 530°F
- White – 590°F
Dry Mode – To enter the special dry mode press the home button 5 times quickly once the unit is powered on. The Peak will vibrate twice and show a myriad of lighting as it is cycling through the different color patterns. Once it hits temperature it will vibrate. This temperature was designed for those who plan to add custom dry tops for heavy hitting dabs but also serves great to clean the 3D Chamber of any residual puddles from vaping at the lower temps.
Vapor Quality
The vapor from the new Peak offers way more customization in terms of vapor output than the original. I am not a huge lung busting hit &, giant clouds dabber. The Proxy remains my favorite Puffco device for the ability to take small little sips and get great flavor. The Peak V2 offers lighter flavorful hits at the lower temperatures and when using smaller amounts of concentrates I get great flavor and consistent vapor.
On the other hand if I turn it up to white or the special dry mode and rip slow and long while circling the joystick cap you can get hits on par with the Peak Pro. For me the vapor at the highest settings hurt my baby lungs and was not as pleasant in terms of taste but you certainly could feel the voluminous vapor and effects on a greater level than sipping on it at 490 °F.
The issue with the lower temperature dabs is the residual left over in the crevices of the 3D chamber. I would finish my session on blue and not be able to get much more if anything out of the Peak then turn it up all the way and milk with slower draws and would get a bigger cloud than anything I got on the lower temps on a fresh dab. Not tasty but the objective here was the review and getting every last drop.
Customization - No More RGB Lighting & No Bluetooth
Puffco designs with the connoisseur in mind. While the new Peak appears to me to be a more refined standard Peak for the entry level / curious about dabs or the mature user looking for the casual dab here and there, there always exists the option for customization. The glass being Puffco Peak standard (backwards compatible across all Peaks and Peak Pros regardless of version) will let the Puffco lover throw their custom glass they got for the Peak Pro on the new Peak V2. Custom caps will certainly come to market in time and given the current product release we can only assume it is a matter of time before there is a new Peak V2 enhanced chamber or Puffco add-on.
Puffco did remove the RGB lighting which was present on the Original Peak which lit the water up during the session. I would say that is one feature where the Original Peak has the new V2 beat. The new Peak will not glow at all during your session beyond the small signal lights on the backside of the chassis.
Portability
This is going to be the most portable out of any E-Rig but we still call it a desktop for the reason that you are not really portable with any water filled device or one that has this large of a glass component on it. You can’t just toss it in your case with ease or go on a walk with your dog. Certainly cannot throw it in your pocket and head out on your skateboard.
As mentioned above it doesn’t even serve well on the nightstand since using it in the bed is a pain. So while it is compact and ergonomic still would require you to get an assigned travel bag or just use it around the house.
USB - C Charging and Battery Life
The new Peak now charges with a USB-C versus the old micro USB of the Original Peak. This is not the cool new feature it was 3-4 years ago and nearly every new vaporizer released utilizes the more power efficient technology of USB-C. This is simply Puffco making the Peak 2.0 more modern and with the times.
The Peak V2 takes about 100 minutes to charge but can charge faster with enhanced after market cables. On a single charge expect about 27-30 dabs on average. Again this will vary based on temperature.
Cleaning
Swabbing your 3D Chamber after each session will help greatly with the longevity of your chamber and Peak Vaporizer. Letting concentrate build or taking abnormally large dabs will cause the unit’s chamber and glass to dirty much faster and the build up will even begin to get under the the top of silicone base. We recommend wiping down the unit periodically with Higher Standard Dot Wipes.
To deep clean the Peak Chamber, toss overnight in 93% or higher Isopropyl alcohol. The glass can become abnormally stained as well if the water is not periodically emptied and changed. If you want to keep your glass in tip top shape over the years, buy yourself some Piece Water solution to fill your glass with.
The need to wipe the chamber down after each session can be kind of burdensome oddly enough. There were lots of times when I would have a dab on my patio but didn’t have any cotton swabs around me right then and there and didn’t feel like running upstairs.

Warranty & Trial Period
The New Peak V2 comes with a 2 year manufacturer warranty and the 3D Chamber comes with a 30 day warranty. The Puffco warranty is only valid when purchased from an authorized retailer like To the Cloud Vapor Store or from Puffco directly. However if you want to save money you may decide to purchase from a retailer who sells Puffco for much cheaper but without a warranty.
To the Cloud Vapor Store also offers a 60 day trial period and lifetime trade ins on your Peak V2 purchase.
The new Peak V2 offers some great updates which take what was so great about the OG Peak and modernize it. The design is more appealing and aesthetic and the function and ability to rip low and tasty or hot and cloudy with the added joystick cap make this a dabbing device which can be appreciated by all.
While it can be appreciated by the Peak 2.0 likely appeals to someone wanting an economical entry level concentrate vaporizer or the older adult user who taking the periodic night time dab or making the switch from flower to concentrates. Regardless it is awesome to see Puffco keeping up with the innovation and providing a line up of devices that can accommodate every type of user.
Great review! I agree with most of your experience, but I’ve found the device to be extremely portable, as long as you set yourself up right.
I haven’t tried the travel glass option, but I will get the rig ready for a portable sesh, and so far I’ve been super pleased. Out oh a home, walking the dog, talking a short walk, riding my bike, etc..
For the full portable experience, like going out in the trail, it takes more work, but only to pack supplies for easy access.
– I wrap the glass, without water in a small clean cloth and set it into the base.
– if I’m hiking, I already have water that I can pour into the glass. Otherwise, I bring a small container of water to pour in right before use. If i am walking the dog I’ll carry it out put in my pocket right side up. It’s surprisingly good at keeping the water in, if you mind your water level.
– pack the chamber as usual, and shove the Peak in my jacket pocket, backpack, or whatever else I have.
– sesh it!
Cleaning:
– globb mops are perfect for high quality cleaning because the are rigid and tightly wound, absorbent with a perfect pointy end
– alcohol wipes are easy to pack and make clean up a breeze. After on the go dabs, I use one globb mop to clean the residue , then i put the alcohol wipe in the chamber and use a second globb mop (if first one is too dirty) to push the wipe along the edges and in the corners. Can also be used on the underside of the cap.
– if I’m using terp pearls, the alcohol wipe helps me get them out without losing any (usually lol). Can also just clean around them until I’m back home.
– pour out the water, wrap the cloth around it, and there you go!
That method may not be for everyone, but i can’t smoke in my place so my only option is portability. No complaints from me, I am happy taking some globb mops and alcohol wipes!
