Puffco has released an updated version of the Proxy, simply called “The New Proxy.” It’s not branded as the Proxy Pro or Proxy 2, but rather an upgrade to the Gen 1 Proxy . The New Proxy has the same core vaporizer design but has some key upgrades and design refinements, much like how car models improve with each new year. Puffco did the same with the Peak. The same device at its core, but updated and upgraded, calling it the ” New Peak”. I do wonder though what will happen though when they release another update in a few years. Will it be then called the Newest Proxy ? It does open the door for some confusion.
Since the fundamentals of the Proxy remain unchanged, we won’t write an entirely new review. You can revisit our original Puffco Proxy review here for the basics. Instead, this article highlights the key differences and improvements between the original Proxy and the New Proxy. We may call it the v2 or Proxy 2.0 just to avoid any confusion. With us selling refurbished vaporizers it adds yet another level of complexity.
Price
The Second Generation Proxy is being released at $249. This is an amazing price considering all the updates. The Original Proxy was $299 when released. Currently the OG Proxy is now selling for $199 so if you don’t need the power offered by the Proxy 2.0 then you can get great value buying either. You can also get 15% off the New Proxy by using code PUFFCO15.

Design & Build

At first glance, the New Proxy’s 3D Chamber looks slimmer in diameter, but it’s actually 30% taller. The added height helps reduce splashback and delivers a cleaner hit. The tradeoff, however, is compatibility: the taller chamber and redesigned base mean it’s the only component that isn’t backwards compatible with the OG Proxy. Just like the transition from the OG Peak to the Peak Pro, the OG Proxy 3D Chamber will not fit the New Proxy.
The New Proxy comes with a 1680 mAh, 3.85v battery, compared to the 1350 mAh, 3.7v battery in the OG Proxy — a 30% increase in capacity. This upgrade doesn’t just translate to more power, it also improves performance. On average, you’ll get about 10% more sessions per charge than the original. While the OG Proxy was more of a sipper, the New Proxy has the strength to produce denser clouds and hit more like a traditional rig, delivering a noticeably more powerful dabs. So while the battery is improved, the fact that it uses more power it does not translate to 25% more battery life. The battery life still is not that great.
New Proxy App

Without a doubt one of the most prominent upgrades and differences is the Proxy v2’s ability to sync with Bluetooth to the Puffco App. The Puffco app, unlocks a range of customization features to fine-tune your sessions. With Boost Mode, you can instantly raise your temperature anywhere from 1° to 36° by double-tapping the home button, and you can even set the duration of that boost from just a second up to a full minute. The app also lets you dial in your exact temperature between 400°F and 644°F and adjust the auto shut-off timer from 15 seconds to 2 minutes, giving you total control over your session length and exact temperature. While the app can be a little touchy if you’re not tech-inclined, the added flexibility is worth it. In practice, I’ve been getting about 20 sessions per charge at my preferred setting of 475°F for 45 seconds — though if you crank the temps higher or run longer sessions, you’ll get closer to 12. So the battery life is still something to be desired given it takes a full two hours to charge full. The app offers the features mentioned above and more. Such as setting custom RGB lighting and choosing the heating algorithm for the type of session you desire. What I have found works best here is to just set it how I like it in the app and then don’t need to screw around with the app when I am using my New Proxy before bed or walking the doggo.
Design & Packaging

The New Proxy glass has been updated with a sherlock-style shape that feels sturdier and more solid in the hand compared to the the OG Proxy glass. Back in 2022, the original design set the bar for style and appeal, but Puffco has a knack for refining what already becomes the industry standard. What is nice here is all OG Proxy glass and other ecosystems remain fully backwards compatible with the New Proxy, ensuring continuity for existing owners. Another noticeable design improvement is the LED lighting, which is now about three times more prominent than on the original model accenting the design even more so. With the New Proxy you can customize the RGB lighting to your liking where you can’t on the OG Proxy. When it comes to packaging, however, the OG Proxy might still hold the advantage. The original Proxy kit came in a padded travel case that was compact, protective, and ideal for portability — though likely more expensive for Puffco to produce. The New Proxy packaging is still protective and well-compartmentalized, but it’s bulkier and not as convenient for on-the-go use. Unfortunately, the New Proxy does not fit in the OG Proxy’s case, so those who travel frequently will want to consider a third-party case until Puffco releases an updated padded travel option.
The New Proxy is certainly an improvement over the original but depending on what kind of session you want the original Proxy may work just fine. The new Proxy offers more versatility and range. With the added power you can pump this thing up and get some E-Rig level dabs. The App just adds to that with the ability to dial it in to the T. Personally the OG Proxy was one of my favorites as I like flavor and silky vapor. The New Proxy just gives you greater options.
